Local sailor with Olympic potential receives Maylarch support
In line with its commitment to support local event and initiatives, Maylarch has recently signed a sponsorship deal with 15 year old Cameron Tweedle to help him pursue his ambition to one day become an Olympic Sailor for team GB.
Despite his young age, Cameron is already recognised as an experienced sailor, regularly achieving results in National events. Most recently, Cameron was competing amongst Olympic sailors in the National Ranking Finn event in Hayling Island and his performance got him credited as “an impressive Finn debutant” showing “massive maturity and skill” by Yacht and Yachting.com
Nick Williamson (Maylarch MD) and Cameron Tweedle at the Oxford Sailing Club.
Maylarch Managing Director, Nick Williamson commented, “We are very proud to support a young and ambitious athlete like Cameron. He is a very good example of what can be achieved through hard work and will power.”
A few words from Cameron…
“Although only 15, I am currently competing in the Olympic men’s class, the Laser Standard and my ambition is to represent Great Britain as an Olympic sailor in the Finn.
The Laser represents my best opportunity to progress my skills and develop experience of competing in top-level big fleets both domestically and internationally, with my plans to take in European competition next year.
My priority is to continue developing by training and racing throughout the winter/spring, allowing me to improve my techniques, processes and tactical knowledge in order to push my way further up the rankings next year and prepare me for international competition. ”
We will post regular updates about Cameron’s progression on this blog and you can also follow Cameron on Twitter @CamTweedleSail and on Cameron Official Facebook page.
