Maylarch’s pledge to the 5% Club
On the 9th April 2014, Maylarch joined the recently launched “ 5% Club”. This national initiative aims to address skills shortage and to support young people in industry.
By signing the charter, businesses commit that they will, over the next five years, work towards 5% of their UK workforce being young people on structured training schemes; and publicly declare their total in their annual reports
Maylarch has always encouraged new entrants in the construction industry; currently 7% of our total workforce are Apprentices in the Demolition and Asbestos Surveying departments.
They can all expect, subject to conditions, to be offered a full time position with Maylarch at the end of their apprenticeship.
Unfortunately we are unable to offer formal Apprenticeships within our Asbestos Removal department as they don’t exist, however all staff complete the required training and are all given the opportunity to complete specific and relevant NVQs as part of their development; if we were to include them, our percentage would be even higher!
We are very proud of our training and commitment to young people, and indeed all our staff, now and in the future.
This commitment was recognised last month at the 2014 Oxfordshire Business Awards where Maylarch reached the final in the ‘Apprenticeship of the Year’ category
